WHAT TO BRING

We suggest you pack lightly. You will need less than you think and there are shops from which to buy clothing and toiletries. Most travel with one suitcase and a small, carry-on backpack that doubles as a pack for outings. Below is a suggested packing list:

CLOTHING

Clothing is modest. While sleeveless tops and tight yoga pants are appropriate in the yoga hall, they will not be appropriate in public. Please bring long cover up shirts to put on when not in the yoga hall. Laundry service is available, but most wash clothes in the sink and hang them to dry. Women should be prepared to wash intimate apparel in their room. Lightweight and airy attire is recommended for easy drying.

  • Pants for yoga, town, and hiking
  • Tops for yoga, town, covering, and travel
  • Scarves to use as covering and warmth
  • Warmer layers (fleece, sweatshirt, and a down jacket – the weather can be chilly in the evening and early morning). Although March is a lovely month weather-wise, the beginning weeks can still experience a cold spell. Best to be prepared.
  • Sleepwear
  • Tennis shoes
  • Sandals and/or flip flops
  • Hat for the sun
  • Sunglasses
  • Underwear
  • Socks
  • Swimwear (wear shorts, and a t-shirt and women wear a bikini or one piece swimsuit and a cover-up/ Many Sattva staff are from nearby villages so please be respectful in your choice of swimwear, leave your Brazilian Bikini at home!)

TOILETRIES

  • Several packets of travel-sized tissue (can also buy these in India)
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Travel packets of facial/body wipes
  • Tampons (they are not available in Rishikesh)
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug repellent
  • Shampoo, conditioner, hair products
  • Deodorant if you use it
  • Toothpaste, toothbrush, floss
  • Chapstick
  • Shower soap and laundry soap (consider a product that doubles as both)
  • Nail clippers, tweezers, razor
  • Small travel-sized first-aid kit

MEDICAL SUPPLIES

  • Whatever cold or flu remedies that work for you and you use at home
  • Oregano extract (drops for each bottle of water, antibacterial)
  • Grapefruit seed extract (tablets, antibacterial)
  • Triphala (capsules, aids in digestion)
  • Your usual daily products, superfoods, green powders, and supplements

WESTERN OPTIONS

  • Broad spectrum antibiotic, malaria pills (optional)
  • Your usual daily products and prescription medications

FOOD & DRINK

  • Snacks for plane and snack bars, trail mix, and/or dried fruit for between meals (I take a bar for each day with me! It takes up space in your suitcase, but you can always fill that space with shopping!
  • An empty reusable water bottle(s) to use at Sattva Centre (a safe, fresh source of water is available)

OTHER

  • Adapter
  • Phone and phone charger
  • Journal, pens
  • Travel pillow
  • Yoga mat (they have some at The Sattva if you don’t want to carry yours)
  • Spare duffel bag (keep it empty, roll it up in your suitcase, great for filling with souvenirs)

  • Check with your wireless provider regarding international charges and plans for your phone.
  • Wireless internet is available in some cafes in Rishikesh. Wireless internet is also available at Sattva Retreat during certain hours of the day.
  • Indian phones can be purchased inexpensively to make phone calls to other Indian phone numbers and to the other countries at a decent rate.

Below we have included information that has been sent in previous emails, such as reminders about travel documents and routes of travel getting to and from Sattva. If you’ve already completed this part of your planning journey - happy packing!
